The plastic combs that clip onto the clippers. A number one is very short, a number eight is long. When someone says "a two on the sides" that is what they mean.
Taper
Hair gets gradually shorter as it goes down toward the neck and the ear, but never down to skin. The conservative option and the one that grows out politely.
Fade
A taper taken further, blended from long down to nearly nothing. Low, mid and high describe where on the head the blend starts.
Line up
The hard edge cut across the front hairline and around the temples. Some men want it, some want the natural hairline left alone. Say which.
Scissor over comb
No clippers at all. The comb lifts the hair and the scissors cut against it. Slower, softer at the edges, and better on hair that is going grey or thinning.
Hot towel
A steamed towel laid over the face before a shave. It softens the beard so the straight razor pulls less. It is also the best two minutes of the week.
If none of this is familiar, that is fine. Sit down and say you want it shorter. A barber who has been doing this since the sixties can take it from there.

A shop that opens in 1967 and is still open in 2026 has done something most businesses never manage. It outlasted the mall, the recession, the trends, and every chain that promised a haircut in eleven minutes.
The only way that happens is repeat customers. Fathers who bring sons. Men who moved out of the Valley and still drive back. A shop like this does not need to advertise. It needs to be findable.
